Your vision should be the basis for all of your goals. Why did you start your business? What do you hope to achieve?
Was the purpose of your small business to gain a little extra side income, while having a lot of free time, or do you want it to turn into something bigger, and therefore more time-consuming? Or do you need to build your business out, so that you’re able to step away?
Knowing what you ultimately want from your business will help you stay in line as all of the inspiring and exciting plans for the new year start to enter your thoughts.
What Worked & Didn’t Work in 2018
Don’t forget to learn from last year’s triumphs and trials. Which social media platforms did well for you? Maybe you should focus on those and relax your schedule on others.
Where did you get the most leads? Where did you spend a lot of time, but not get a lot of return? Keep all of this in mind as you outline what you want to achieve for the next year.
What were your favorite parts of 2018, in terms of your business’s success? How can you incorporate more of that for the next year? And what did you not like? How can you avoid that, if possible?
As much as you wish you did, you don’t have all the time in the world to achieve your goals. As you ponder what you’d like to make happen this year, think about how long it will take, what steps are required, and how it will fit into your current schedule. You’re the same you with the same business. Set realistic goals with specific time-oriented actions.
What does your market need? How is it changing? What solutions need to be adjusted or created? What you created and sold last year may not match the needs for the new year.
